Low-dose testosterone for women by small weekly injection, prescribed from your labs and monitored by your provider.
Some women prefer a weekly injection to a daily cream. When your labs and symptoms support it, your provider may prescribe testosterone at a low dose designed to keep you within the normal female range, often alongside estradiol and progesterone as part of a full hormone plan.
Testosterone is a controlled substance and requires lab testing and ongoing monitoring. There is no FDA-approved testosterone product for women in the U.S., so it is prescribed off-label at female doses. Topical (cream) testosterone is the most studied route for women; injections are an option your provider may recommend based on your history and preference. Possible side effects include acne, unwanted hair growth, and injection-site reactions. Doses above the female range can cause voice deepening or other changes that may not reverse, which is why dosing is kept low and followed with labs. Not appropriate during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or when trying to conceive.
